Then your memory fails you. Fees have always been yearly.

| | Can I use a Router instead of a USB modem? by
paul blitz
I got BT wires only, then went out and bought a USR 9003. Its about £110.
The 9003 includes a "proper" firewall (most "ADSL routers" only have NAT,
which means you ALSO need a software firewall on your PC's)
The 9003 has 2 ethernets and a USB: all 3 can be used at the same time, and
by default, they can all talk to each other.
In my case, I already had a hub (I used to have a dialup-router) so...

Harmunt
Would I have to have an ugly white box bolted to the front of the house?
Can I just opt for the broadband service as a stand-alone (i.e. no TV
channels)?
Does this affect my BT telephone number at all?
cheers,
Neil.

Hi All
Sorry to bother you, but I'm looking for someone who
would be interested in writing an article or two about
broadband in our new magazine - nothing too technical,
more of a beginners' guide. Anybody fancy giving it a go?

| | Exchange Locations Again -- Test Valley by
MartinK
Hi,
I'm still trying to find the locations of BT exchanges in Hampshire
for use in a broadband marketing campaign and hope you'll forgive me if
I ask the group for a little help.
The following is a list of exchanges in the Test Valley local
authority with the location information (postcode + OS National Grid
easting & northing) that I've extracted from OS Address-Point data. Can...

Thanks for the initial feedback.
The modem loses sync with the exchange but recovers within 30 secs normally.
(I am a good distance from the exchange but it has worked fine for a long
time.)
I've only swapped the 2 filters I received with the modem. Is it worth
disconnecting all phone equipment and trying it without any filters?
I have a Via chipset motherboard but it is a very recent one...

What do you want - a "super power user" firewall for free ?
ZA works fine for me. Is there anything specific you dislike about it ?

| | UkOnline broadband by
David C
I have just joined the broadband revolution with my old ISP UkOnline (part
of the Easynet Group).
I am very happy with the service so far but wonder if anyone else has signed
up with them yet? The Actiontec wireless router seems to do the job well
with 3 computers connected wireless and 1 via LAN.

| | Pipex and Netgear modem by
Jason
Have been using Pipex for about 18 months, first 15 months via a USB frog
and bar a few hiccups the service has been spot on.
Few months back I bought a Netgear DM602 ADSL modem (connected via RJ45, not
USB) and a WGR614 wireless ADSL router - since then periodically the service
becomes unavailable. All the lights etc stay green on the modem and the
router and I can ping the router but not the...
