Your "Ethernet: 10/100 for networking & ADSL broadband router" is a fancy
name for a Network Interface Card (NIC), which is used to connect your PC to
others over a network, or to connect to an ADSL router.

| | Late Night Ringing by
Edward Holt
Ever since I've had ADSL installed my old rotary pulse dial handset will
ring very briefly during the night - anytime between 10pm and 5am I think.
I normally leave the PC on downloading stuff.
There's also a modern digital cordless telephone connected but this doesn't
ring.
Is there any reason for this?

Sounds likely. Although, as you probably know, their news server is a bit
flakey. This wouldn't stop you getting a connection of course. I'd go with
your initial thought of the router, or modem (or both).
