Zen connection problems by Richard Platt
I've been having a lot of connection problems with Zen over the past couple of weeks. First week of service was fine, but since then there have been regular disconnections, with the modem losing sync. It then renegotiates and carries on as normal. Also, my connection has recently started to freeze for a few seconds without the modem appearing to disconnect. This happens every couple of minutes or...

Does uploading effect your download speed? by The Natural Philosopher
f@ke wrote: Not got ADSL yet but on my 56k modem uploading slows down my download speeds or vice versa. Is this the same with ADSL? Sholdn't do if the IP stack is well wroitten, but if the window size is small, the acks mey be delayed coming back, so causing transmission pauses.

Options considering our exchange isnt enabled by Simon Harvey
Hi guys, Any ideas would be greatfully received. We ideally want to host a site on our own property but we arent sure of our options and what they would cost. I heard there was a sat solution that provided decent uplink speeds as well. Any ideas? Simon

How To? Dial-up to Broadband conversion. by Kráftéé
Has anyone any web references to Noddy's Guides explaining what re-congig/ re-setting needs to be done when substituting an ADSL modem for a dial-up modem (and paying a new ISP, of course!) I am confused about how to set up the new connection route and what to tell IE and OE about it. I will be using Win 98SE. Also, can I set things up so that reversion to dial-up is simple ...

Freeserve broadband - home networking - questions by Bumble Bee Boy 2 at Google
Hi all! I know the main questions have been asked many times before, but I have a few questions, and my current PC specs may affect the answers... Anyway firstly I'm getting Freeserve Broadband (yay!), that's not in question before anyone warns me against it! ;) I've got 2 PC's, one has a standard (??) LAN modem, the other has an Ethernet card... Now, I obviously want to use both PC's on the...

DUMB QUESTION SPECIFIC TO NTL by Ivor Brokewind
Oh Joys - I have to set up a router for a mate on broadband. No major worries methinks. He then informs me "It's NTL broadband". Yikes.......(he's currently using a USB modem) Here comes the stupid question - I take it the spec is pretty much the same as BT's (???), Still needs filters (???) operates in a simular fashion. Anything I need to be aware of before I agree to take this on?...

Warning if you're considering the Bulldog 2mbps service by Chris Jones
It seems quite possible that I could go ahead and cancel with BT Openworld only to be told by Bulldog that I can't have the 2mpbs service. In which case you can have the 1 mbps line instead, or just go back to 512 kbps but with a better ISP. Either way, you win.

Draytek Vigor 2600We or Solwise SAR-715PVW? by Martin²
Can't tell you about Solwise, but Draytek 2600We is highly recommended, easy to set up, all the functionality you may want. See the 'Recommendation for wireless ADSL router' thread right above your Q. Regards, Martin

Cheapest Way to get Broadband? by Simon Harvey
The problem at the moment for you is the fact that most providers charge a setup fee because BT (the buggers) charge the providers for each install. Sometimes BT waives the fee to get more people interested but seeing as the numbers are growing steadily anyway, they arent doing this at the moment i dont think. The other thing is that you would have to pay the fee again at your new address I'm...

will 2 seperate BT lines tothe same place have the same ADSL compatiblity by Ash
I have 2 BT lines at present (one for internet n one for telephone). I was out when the BT man came to check if i could have ADSL, so I think he only checked one of the lines (which failed). Is it worth getting the other line checked or will it just have the same problem of distance (being to the same house). I don't now how BT lines work e.g will my two lines be on the same line, and then...

BT BROADBAND / BT MIIDBAND - WHAT A DISGRACE ££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££ by Richard Fairbairn
I thought that everyone should know about this so that they can be warned when buying BT MIDBAND that the BT MIDBAND connection charge is NON REFUNDABLE when BT finally sees fit to install ADSL at your local exchange. I signed up for BT MIDBAND on the 9th June, having been informed (by my town's local website www.dunbar.org) that Dunbar was being ADSL enabled on the 8th October and broadband...

Registering interest with Virgin.net by Mark Lewis
I was asked by someone in my area to pre-register them with Virgin.net. The form at www.virgin.net gives every indication of being for pre-registration but when I asked them, I got: "Virgin do not send this information off to BT- it is used to give us an idea of how many of our customer's are interested in the Broadband service. If you go to www.broadband.co.uk you'll be able to register...

Draytek Vigor 2600We/MS Messenger 6 question by Toby Mathews
My colleague and I both work from home via 2600We's, however having downloaded Messenger 6 we can no longer get voice chat's to work (it used to work on previous versions). We've both installed the most recent firmware on the routers and enabled everything under uPnP in the router admin. Elsewhere in this group I saw it suggested that I needed to go into the Settings of my Internet Gateway (in...
