I've been reviewing a tender from an IT Services company who is
tendering to provide a small company (the MD is a friend of mine) with
ADSL connectivity for their offices around the country.
What is puzzling me is that they are recommending BTOpenworld as the
ISP using their 512K business...

I recently set up BT Broadband on an iBook using Mac OS X 10.2.6.
I used a D-Link DSL-300G+ Ethernet ADSL modem connected by wired
ethernet to the iBook. That all went very smoothly.

If sending an e-mail to is taking too long send
an e-mail to and mention OFTEL. They called me by
phone the same day I sent the e-mail and seemed to take the complaint very

| | NTL "Broadband" [150kbps] by
David Bradley
Sadly my son wants to jump at NTLs Broadband offer of £17.50 per month
with free modem thrown in.
To me signing up with the likes of Nildram or Zen at around £23 makes
more sense.
Could I please have some pros and cons in this matter to advise
correctly.

OK,
I've signed up for by broadband account (I've gone with Nildram) and it's
due to go active on Thursday (24th).
I ordered a router from them when I set up my account with them. That
arrived yesterday. I've connected it all up. It appears to be working. It
does everything that the documentation says it should apart from the PPPoE
LED coming on but I assume that is because my account does not...

No, but the BBC do have to point out that 'Other listings magazines are
available' and BT should be required to do the same with ADSL.

Stuart Riddell
I have recently purchased a DG814 and have been getting the ADSL line
dropping out on a regular basis in the last week or so. Previously the modem
would not respond to ADSL conneciton and I had to reboot it. This was about
once a week which was bad enough but just in the last few days the
ADSL/Internet light has been off when I am working on the PC and I have
tried to do various things to sort...

Anybody know if it's possible to make this 'invisible'? Ie.
Described as 'stealth' instead of 'closed' by Shields Up? It's
the only port that indicates any presence to passing port
scanners yet it's also quite useless. I'd rather it were
invisible.
I changed the following config line:

I've been having a lot of connection problems with Zen over the past
couple of weeks. First week of service was fine, but since then there
have been regular disconnections, with the modem losing sync. It then

recently started to freeze for a few seconds without the modem
appearing to disconnect. This happens every couple of minutes or...

Sholdn't do if the IP stack is well wroitten, but if the window size is
small, the acks mey be delayed coming back, so causing transmission pauses.

Any ideas would be greatfully received. We ideally want to host a site on

I heard there was a sat solution that provided decent uplink speeds as well.
