I'm getting ADSL installed at an office in Jersey. This will be to run a
VPN over. The VPN device requires a public IP address on it's External/WAN
interface. This hasn't been a problem on other sites as Energis have given
us a routed solution with a range of public IPs to use. However Energis
don't operate in Jersey so we need to use Jersey Telecom, who don't provide
a routed...

| | Netgear DG814 Firmware 4.8 problems by
Mal Ice
I have a problem with the 4.8 firmaware. I have done a factory reset and tried
to manually enter settings (as suggested in previous posts). However, I am
unable to do so. Every time I press "Apply" I either get a string of font names
or I get the help file repeated in the middle of the config panel. If I tried
to "upgrade" to a previous version the "post-query" screen returns the font
names...

I have been using the MRI ADSL Router on Demon ADSL Solo for quite
some time now, but last night we had a power cut and since that my
router does not appear to be working properly. The ADSL and LAN
lights are both on, however the internet is not working and I cannot
access the configuration pages on 10.0.0.2 as the default password for
'admin' is not being accepted, I have tried hitting the...

| | ADSL Extended Reach Trial by
jazzyjeff
Has anyone actually managed to get on the trial?
Do you have an activation date?
I ordered through eclipse on the trial, they say that something went wrong
with the order process and they are waiting on BT to let them know if the
lines pass the test or not.
Anyone else in this situation?

| | ADSL Filter/Splitters: Sidetone by

Am I imagining it, or do these devices result in a
higher level of sidetone in the telephone's earpiece ?
It's possible, if the filter causes a niticeable drop in line voltage.
If the phone is electronic, low line voltage tends to increase the
seidetone - and some phones are very fussy.

| | Question about strange grey BT box... by
Graham in Melton
The clues are in the HDSL, and 2Mbit I guess.
I would guess its most likely a 2Mbit connection and the rest are control
LED's for the 2Mbit line.... But I'm sure someone will correct me.
No chance of the "on the cheap" though imo and the line rental would be
somewhat hefty as well - so unless they are big offices with lots of people
or huge bandwidth demands, don't get your hopes up !

Chris Trueman
I change my Netgear DG814 MTU size to something like 1458 (certainly less
than the defauly 1500) and things like email, web, news, ftp, and so on
worked just fine. But when using my companies VPN software to access
internal servers I found that some were unavailable and that their network
code reported errors.
I'm wondering what might have caused this.
For example, I only change the MTU...

not@live.com
I live in Daventry on one the estates that are fed by Fibre, which means I
cannot have Broadband even though the Exchange is enabled. I am looking for
other people who live in Daventry and would like Broadband. If there is
enough interest I will contact BT and see what can be done, or, enquire
about the possibility of Wireless.
So If you are Interested, post a follow-up to this message.

I have been rejected by BT because my house is more than 5.5km distance. Now
BT are trying "Extended Reach Proggramme" which covers upto 6km,i have
applied for it through my ISP "Clara net" who have written to me that BT
will carry out tests to check whether it is possible in my case. I am
holding my breath. Do BT have to come inside my house to check the things?
or only from checking outside...
