Some do, but most ADSL routers have the modem built in. Check out

| | Cannot use modem (for faxing) since installing broadband - help please.. by
Pete
Since installing broadband I no longer seem able to use my modem.
I'm connecting to B-band using a D-Link DSL504 ADSL router.
The standard XP diags on the modem report that it's working fine, but
using the diags that came with the (Conexant) modem report that there
is no dial tone. Plugging a phone into the same socket, I do get a
dialtone. I have installed the modem in a friend's PC and it...

There are filters that will work with caller ID available in the UK - just

Hi
I now have the option of adsl (or will have very soon as the trigger level
has been hit), I have home highway in my study (and no other phone lines)
and various normal phone points connected to an additional normal phone line
through the house. I would like to keep the hh box and 2 lines in my study
so could I install a wireless router direct to one of the other phone lines
and then connect...

| | routers, two comps by
was gio, now vinnieza
do routers automatically detect if two computers are using broadband so it
shares the connection speed? so if one computer wasn't connected to the
internet, the router would detect that and give the other computer the full
2 mbps, rather then still share it.

Telewest are okay if you don't mind being disconnected for no reason,
even though you did nothing wrong. Avoid at all costs.
Remember: BT are making a profit, Telewest are making a loss. Enough said.

| | DG824m Dropinng Connection by
Rob Kersey
I have issues with my DG824m continually dropping connection then
being unable to reconnect to it from my PC.
Th DG824m Is only 20m at the most from my PC. Both are fairly low down
but over such a short distance did not think this would be an issue.
What would be causing me to continually lose my lan connection and
then being unable to reconnect easily?
I am also running the following firmware...

- Stay with Demon but change the MX record to point to a remote email

I'd probably go for that. You could get a remote email server from
anywhere. http://www.gradwell.com/ for example.
Can you not collect your demon mail by POP3 in the event of a failure
though? I could always do that when I was on...

Chris Trueman
I have a DG814 and playing as a client of Enemy Territory over the Internet
works great.
My mate on the hand as a DG824M and he is not so lucky. The first time he
starts the game it will download the available servers. But if he toggles
a filter, refreshes the list, or brings up the "Server Info" window, it
stops working. He can no longer list any of the servers.

I plan to sign up with Freeserve next week and I understand they will send
me a free usb modem. The thing is I have already bought a modem/router and I
am going to use that. My question is do I have to tell Freeserve that I
plan to use my own router - or not?
If there is nothing in their Ts&Cs about using the supplied modem - then
no need to tell them. If there is, then don't...
