| | Question about strange grey BT box... by
Graham in Melton
The clues are in the HDSL, and 2Mbit I guess.
I would guess its most likely a 2Mbit connection and the rest are control
LED's for the 2Mbit line.... But I'm sure someone will correct me.
No chance of the "on the cheap" though imo and the line rental would be
somewhat hefty as well - so unless they are big offices with lots of people
or huge bandwidth demands, don't get your hopes up !

| | Router MTU and OS MTU by
Chris Trueman
I change my Netgear DG814 MTU size to something like 1458 (certainly less
than the defauly 1500) and things like email, web, news, ftp, and so on
worked just fine. But when using my companies VPN software to access
internal servers I found that some were unavailable and that their network
code reported errors.
I'm wondering what might have caused this.
For example, I only change the MTU...

| | Broadband in Daventry by
not@live.com
I live in Daventry on one the estates that are fed by Fibre, which means I
cannot have Broadband even though the Exchange is enabled. I am looking for
other people who live in Daventry and would like Broadband. If there is
enough interest I will contact BT and see what can be done, or, enquire
about the possibility of Wireless.
So If you are Interested, post a follow-up to this message.

I have been rejected by BT because my house is more than 5.5km distance. Now
BT are trying "Extended Reach Proggramme" which covers upto 6km,i have
applied for it through my ISP "Clara net" who have written to me that BT
will carry out tests to check whether it is possible in my case. I am
holding my breath. Do BT have to come inside my house to check the things?
or only from checking outside...

Could someone with wireless experience please offer me some advice? I'm

back garden with sufficient strength to be of any use. I'm thinking putting
