SkyBB prob Again by naza
Something strange is happening with my internet. I used to sync around 2600kbps, but since friday i cannot even get close to that. What happened was that on friday the speed droped to around 1200kbps and everytime i would restart it would get lower. Then and saturday it got really bad 300kbps and by sunday it was at 128kbps. Attenuation was going up and down all the time but the noise margin was...

Very slow internet response times with BT Business Hub following move by Bobby
Hi A colleage of mine works mainly from home. He has a Sony Vaio laptop, and uses a BT Business Hub. Bandwidth in his area is (alledgedly) 8mb. About 2 months ago I went to his house and set all this up for him, and it worked fine, with good response times, both with the cable plugged in and wireless in various rooms in his house. However, he is now complaining that internet response times...

Virgin Media ADSL .....still slow during evenings and weekends by jdr.smith@virgin.net
Weeks of testing my connection at various times of the day and it's obvious for anyone to see that their ADSL broadband offering is now the pits ! Weekday mornings I get a good 5 - 6 Mbps every day, positively screams along. No complaints there, except my boss would take exception if I took to staying at home during the daytime to do my net surfing. Get home in the evening, most days lucky if I...

Paying same for less connection speed by booveedoo@yahoo.co.uk
Hi, probably been asked before, but why am I paying the same amount for a 1MB connection (I`m at the furthest distance from from the exchange) as someone paying the same amount for an 8MB connection (they`re nearer the exchange)??? Does`nt seem fair or logical to me. Also, I`ve told that BT laid aluminium lines for the last part of the run (ran out of copper!) when they built our estate some 25...

Poor Sky BB customer service by Dave Boomhauer
I wish I had something else to worry about to be honest........ I thought Sky BB was brilliant at first. For about 6 months the speed has been great - about 2 Mb faster than with other ISP's (I think I'm on LLU now)..... Since last night the speed has gone from consistently being 4Mb (with dropouts admittedly) to 700Kb (repeated tests at Speedtest.net and thinkbroadband.com).......

Orange problem today Mon 01/10/07..? by Ivor Jones
Just had a phone call from a friend who's using an Orange Livebox, she says she has no internet connection. I've told her to try rebooting the thing but in case that doesn't work has anyone else had a problem connecting to Orange today..? She hasn't used the thing for several days as she's been away on holiday, so we have no idea how long it's been off for. Ivor

ISP advise.. by scotty
hey, I recently tried getting NTL/virgin cable installed in my apartment but the engineer came out to find out that its not available in my building. That was 3months ago... Ive since been trying to find the best deal with ADSL. I don't have a line hooked up (but its there, used to be connected with BT), and it

ISDN with ADSL? by Marty Fremen
Before I make an ass of myself with a BT salesman who is trying to "upgrade" our analogue phone line to ISDN2e, am I right in thinking that ADSL will not work over an ISDN connection? (Our analogue phoneline line currently has an ADSL connection running over it.) The literature we've received doesn't mention it at all, but BT's website seems to suggest that you have to downgrade ISDN to...

ADSL v LLU ? by srt
Hi, I am presently with Zen adslmax. They are excellent providers but the best connection I get given my distance to exchange etc is just over 2mbps which is pretty slow in comparison to what some get. I know its to do with line distance etc and cant do much about that but I see that Sky have an LLU setup (checked over DSL ZoneUK) in my area and wondered if that has any bearing on better...

Virgin Media makes customer spit feathers by Gonz
Saw this in another group, and I thought I cud use it to see if havin Virgin in the subject was now gettin through :o) Am I turning into Victor Meldrew or does anyone else think this is unacceptable bullying? Sometime last month Virgin Media changed their support service for broadband problems and instead of just ringing 150 from a Virgin phone now you have to dial a premium rate...

Good for binaries? by Ron
I am struggling to make sense of the array of broadband choice (I need to upgrade from a dialup account). One thing I would like is access to binary newsgroups - it's something my dialup account includes, so I didn't want to lose it. Any suggestions for a service which includes that?

Thinking about Vodafone by Hungerdunger
I'm nearing the end of my contract with Demon, and thinking of changing my ISP. As I'm already with Vodafone for my mobile phone service, I've been looking at their Vodafone At Home package, which appears quite competitive on price and should save me around £180 per year over what I pay at present to Demon and BT. Before I take the plunge I'd like to find out whether anyone else here uses...

More than one modem on a BT broadband line? by hoochxy
Is there any reason why someone can't have more than one modem on a BT broadband line? A friend has a setup with one modem and a wireless router but the wireless signal is weak at the far end of the house. If I were to install, say, a second (USB) modem at the far end of the house, would that work? If so, would I have to disable the wireless function of the second modem to avoid conflicts? ...

Eclipse blocking BitTorrent? by Kris
My connection is a Flex 1000. Has your BitTorrent stopped working today? Try this.... Get firefox. Use the User Agent Switcher extension: http://chrispederick.com/work/user-agent-switcher/ Set it up in Tools-User Agent Switcher-Options-Options, add a user-agent, anything in the first line, "uTorrent/1610" (without quotes) in the second line. Alternatively, try "Asureus" - that doesn't work...

Tiscali Broadband keeps dropping by Jessica B
I have had Tiscali 2Mb Broadband for several months now running without any problems but since yesterday, the connection keeps dropping (the ADSL light starts flashing on the Speedtouch modem), and later reconnecting every 5-10 minutes. I have tried everything the help pages suggest (e.g disconnect everything, wait 60 secs, reboot etc) and have changed the filter. The phone always has a dial...

skype and bandwidth by Casey
I have a question about Skype. I am not yet a user but am considering it. I know it is peer-to-peer: Does it use bandwidth even when the application is closed or only when it is running? I know that if I have the application running but am not currently using it then it could route other people's calls, but am I correct in believing that all skype-related network activity *must* cease...
