Six Things You Don't Know About Broadband (1) by free-broadband
Six Things You Don't Know About Broadband (1) Do you know broadband? You may answer yes. I know you may have tried different broadband from several broadband ISPs. You may have installed broadband by yourself several times. You know broadband speed - 2Mb, 8Mb or 24 Mb. You may understand the monthly usage and control your usage. But if you are not a technician in that area, you may not know...

Do I have a Problem With My Line Errors? by Twyford_Keith
Can somebody tell me if there is something unusual about my CRC, FEC, and/or HEC errors from my stats below? I think the errors look odd because I only have up errors and the FEC errors look high? BT tell me that I am 6.5km from the exchange so I think that my attenuation is about right? although it does change, and the two figures below represent the upper and lower limits. I want to be...

Buzz on the line! by Harry Bloomfield
For months we have had a buzz on our DECT telephone. We don't use the landline much, or at least I don't - most of my calls are via mobile. This evening I decided to investigate the noise.... I pulled the modem out of the filter, buzz still there. Tried moving the DECT base unit away from the wireless modem. Tried a spare DECT phone + base unit in the filter, then finally a wired phone in...

advice on a new router please. by Elder
I have a cheap dynamode adsl router that was nasty when I bought it, but cheap enough to get back online two years ago. However, it is now dropping the line and won't resynch with a reconnect, but does with a reboot. However it has started to need a reboot roughly every 30 minutes. I fancy a Linksys AG241 for future compatability. I already have a linksys wireless access point. Is the AG241...

SKY ROUTER DROPPING OUT by Dave Boomhauer
I'm a bit fed up with this now. Particularly in the evening, but now more so during the whole day my Sky Router loses synch and the line drops. I've tried rebooting at the point when the line drops, but it appears to make no odds...... The noise margin is consistently around 7db...

Router is plugged into what passes as the BT Master socket. Unplugged all telephones (3) and sky box Result - connects at 2048 which is what is expected.

Transfer of broadband and telephone to housemate by Gundemarie Scholz
Good morning! Currently the telephone line (BT) and the ADSL broadband access (Eclipse) in the house I share with others are in my name. As I am going to move out the services are going to be transferred to one of my housemates. Now I am wondering how I can minimise the broadband downtime. BT tells me they cease the line when the ownership changes, resulting in a short downtime of maybe a...
