| | 2 Versions of IP Protocol on Laptop!? by
TheScullster
Hi all
Not sure about this!
Colleagues laptop has 2 versions of IP Protocol listed under the properties
of his wireless connection.
IP Version 6 has addresses set to "obtain automatically"
IP Version 4 has fixed adresses.
Which protocol will the wireless connection use by default?
Why are there 2 IP Protocols?

A provider who will let you connect from ANY adsl-enabled line? Or are the
lines always tied to a single provider?

| | bt satalite by
Ted
Hello
I recently changed address and cancelled my Freeserve broadband account.
Applied for and eventually got the Home Hub box.
It would not connect to broadband and after a visit from BT engineer was
informed that broadband was not possible due to the distance from exchange,
abt 6 miles.
Am now on dialup and it is painful, slow and dropping every 5 mins.
The only solution seems to be satalite....

| | new to broadband - Orange livebox by
dido22
Hello,
I'm using the Orange livebox to access broadband - no major problems - but I
cannot find where my internet password & username are stored ?
I don't need to change them, but I'd like to know where they are ? Are they
on my pc somewhere, or stored in the livebox itself ?
Thanks for all advice

| | NTL Wireless Broadband Setup by
TheScullster
Hi all
Please bear with me I'm a wireless virgin!
A colleague of mine cannot connect to his home network.
This is a wireless setup with a Linksys router - is there such a thing as a
"standard" NTL wireless install?
Anyway, he was working away from home and someone changed some settings on
his laptop to get him onto their wireless network (some hotel I think!).

| | Considering Sky Broadband by
The Weary Wizard
As a Sky Digital subscriber, I am considering switching my broadband
subscription over to them from AOL.
I will be interested to know of other peoples' experiences of this
service, and if they have found it reliable.
Thanks in anticipation.

| | Considering moving from Plusnet to Sky by
Andy Pandy
Wondering if I'm about to do the right thing?
All I really want is to save some money per month. I pay £14.99/month now
for Plusnet and that is with an 8Gb monthly download limit. I seem to
regularly go over that limit (not by much but enough to sometimes add a
fiver on to the end of that monthly fee)
I can get Sky Broadband for a tenner a month and that is unlimited (I know
they say...

| | Checkpoint SecureRemote VPN over Netgear DG834 by
TheScullster
Hi all
Another newbie 834 question.
I would like to run a VPN into my workplace and connect to my desktop.
At work we have CheckPoint Firewall1 software and to get through to that I
have installed SecureRemote software on my laptop.
The connectivity works fine across a dial up connection, but obviously speed
is not acceptable
I don't get error messages when syncing to the works router with...

| | Help with cable illegality by
Gary
A friend has been suffering poor ADSL broadband performance of late, low
SNR, frequent line drops.
It transpires that the flat recently had double glazing fitted and as
the telephone cable passed through the window frame, the window fitters
just cut the cable before the NTE5, refitted the glazing and quote
"stuck it back together with gaffer tape".
I'm guessing that this bodged cable joint...

| | Voyager 2091 router keeps disconnecting and not reconnecting automatically by
Mortimer
A customer has just got broadband and the Voyager 2091 router than his ISP
supplies.
I've noticed that it keeps disconnecting and doesn't reconnect automatically
even when his browser or email client make external requests. However he can
reliably connect if he goes into the router's config page and presses the
Connect button. I've confirmed that it's set to "Aways On", so it shouldn't
even be...

donotemailthisaddy@hotmail.com
Hi, I'm thinking of moving from Zen to ADSL24 but am unsure of the
process for doing this. I would like to make sure I don't end up
without a net connection, so it would be great if ADSL24 could take
over straight from Zen. Is there a best way for going about this.
Can I just call ADSL24 and sign up (or do it on the website) and they
will take care of everything? Or do I have to go to Zen...

Hi all
Daft question - all routers of a particular brand have the same setup
instructions and the same ip address.
Doesn't selling thousands of these things with the same address etc make
life easy for hackers?
