| | required bandwidth vor VOIP by
Phillip Helbig---remove CLOTHES to reply
I've read something about "1 MB per minute", presumably in both
directions. With ADSL, the bottleneck will be the upstream rate. For
128 kb/s, which is 16 kB/s, one minute would be 960 kB, or almost a MB.
So, 128 kB/s is cutting it pretty close. Even if the 1 MB/s is the
total in both directions, that would mean half of the upstream
bandwidth, i.e. probably not usable of there is more than one...

| | preferred codec? by
Lee
Hello
I am just browsing the configuration for my sipura ATA and see that the SIP
"preferred codec" is G711u and that "Use Pref Codec Only" is set to Yes.
I know absolutely nothing about codecs. Are these settings correct? What do
other people use?
I am registered with voipfone if that makes a difference.

Is it possible to use the incomming bt line for fax and the ADSL on the same
physical telephone line for the broadband connection, then use the VoIP via
the broad band?
Is there any interferance between the Anologue fax and the ADSL data?

| | Vonage - Dialing UK local and national numbers by
Paul Westwell
Hi,
With Vonage if I dial a UK local or national number what format does it have
to be in?
e.g for a Bracknell number if I am already in Bracknell can I just dial
123456 or do I have to dial 01344 123456?
Calling within the UK I assume I do not have to use international format
0044 1344 123456?

| | Grandstream BT 101 phone hacked? by
Tom
Hi,
I have a SIP phone (Grandstream BT 101), which I use with Sipgate. However,
yesterday, when I tried to use it, it wouldn't work. I went to the settings
page of the phone, and discovered that the connection details had been
changed. The provider was no longer Sipgate but europasstelecom.com (many
settings had been changed).
I wonder if this is a bug following a self-firmware update, or...

| | Website that lists uk voip providers/hardware? by
Shane Carpenter
Hi Peeps, been looking on this newsgroup and searching the internet to see
what hardware/provider is best for me. Just wondered if there is a website
that lists the current voip providers and/or hardware available.
So far looked at sipgate, vonage, voipfone, gradwell for providers (need a
geographic number) and the netgear ta612v and Linksys PAP2 for
hardware......but still can't make my...

| | Asterisk@home Dial Patterns by
Sparks
Having a bit of trouble working out how to setup the dialling rules with A@H
If I have the following in the Outbound Routing - VoIPBuster section
*006|.
and calls prefixed with *006 are routed via VoIPBuster 9I do however have to
use the full international number, which is a pain)
I want to be able to just dial numbers without prefixing, and not having to
add 0044 to the beginning.

| | Basic question on VoIP by
Stephane M
Hello,
I have a slow ADSL... (512kb/s) however, I can see that if I make a VoIP
phone call AND if I download a file at the same time, I have some trouble
with my communication. (Not really suprising ... :-(
- Do you think that this desappear with quicker broadband ?
- Or is there a trick to keep a good communication when somebody else is
downloading at the same time on the network ??

There's been some discussion here about sending fax through VoIP
telephone adaptors. The consensus view seems to be that this can be
hit and miss, so pretty unreliable.
I find that any sort of data (which includes fax) over VoIP on a BT
ADSL link is unreliable. OTOH, it works just fine if you're running
VoIP over an internal LAN, or over a high speed leased...

| | Outgoing caller-id by
Matt
Can anyone recomend a VOIP provider (UK or International) that allows
you to set the outgoing callerid?
Why - so that when calls are diverted from my asterisk box to the
mobile, I can see who is calling and act accordingly.
Many thanks

| | Is sipgate good enough? by
Shane Carpenter
Hello peeps, I've got Telewest broadband and thought it was time to ditch
the line rental and go for voip. I've signed up with sipgate for a free
local number and have tested it with a soft phone and it seems to be ok.
Reading on here though a few people have question marks with sipgate. The
answer phone is a bit naff and there's no divert. Vonage is a possible
alternative though I doubt I would...
