Daft sod needs help please by Pete
Hello peeps - I am about to set sail into the secretive world of VOIP but know the square root of b*gger all about it. :-) Are there any kind souls out there who would be kind enough to please point me in the direction of anything that might work as a daft sod's guide to VOIP? All I have at the moment is a good knowledge of computers and a bog standard 18866 account.

Recommendations for an ATA by Andrew Gabriel
Looking for recommendations for an ATA to install in parents' house where I will manage it remotely. Should provide POTS feedthrough so they continue using all their current handsets pretty much as they do now, with BT callerid. Would also like direct IP to IP calling. I have been recommended the SIPRA 3000. I couldn't see any mention of direct IP to IP calling in its spec though, and I found a...

1899 not taking new sign-ups by Pete
Hi again VoIPers - I appreciate that this is not a VoIP question but as some of you are certainly using 1899, could you plese tell me how long it is since they stopped accepting new sign-ups? I tried to join today and got an email back from them saying the lists are closed and to wait at least six weeks before re-applying. Not good enough, I want to use their service NOW!!! :-))) Well they...

Cheapest rates at the moment? by Tony Hoyle
With 1899 and 18866 both going to higher than BT rates for mobile calls, and voipbuster being higher than that (19.4p/minute!) who offers the best rate now? Cheapest looks like voipfone (11p), but they have a monthly fee which offsets it (I don't make that many calls in a month, so it's quite a difference). Any better deals?

Cheap calls from Germany (landline) to any Sipgate number by Philippe Deleye
to: Sipgate users Just read on the German Sipgate site (www.sipgate.de) that Sipgate has an agreement of cooperation with the German call-to-call provider PM² Telecommunication GmbH. All calls from a German landline via this carrier to any Sipgate number (UK, Germany, Austria ...) are billed at 0.99 ct/minute, by using the carrier prefix 01056 before the number. This is about 0.66...

Netgear TA612V by Aaron J
Dear All, I just purchased a new netgear TA612v and initially I was under the assumption it could be used with my current router Netgear DG834T. After un-packing the router I noticed it had a port for ethernet and a port for the internet so I assumed I could configure the both to be visable on my internal LAN with port forwarding well after speaking to Netgear support last night they told I...

VOIP calls through Mesh based Networks by John Owens
Hi I have set up voip phone on my router and can make calls. (Actually I have succeeded with two phones, a grandstream and a snom). However I can only receive inbound calls immediately after I have made an outgoing call. The problem is reported on the control screen as 'too many contacts' and on the snom phone it shows NR (?Not Registered ?). Gradwell support , who have been very good, had...

1899 blocking VoIP access again! by {{{{{Welcome}}}}}
A while back 1899 had blocked all registered numbers from using VoIP, the only way to get 1899 VoIP to work again was to add another number, well 1899 have done it again blocked those added numbers too. I have added another new number which now works, if this continues I am going to run out of numbers to add!

18866 voip by Web Sniffer
I'm a complete newbie at this, so please bear with me. I have a Sipgate number with the X-lite softphone which worked fine. I thought it might be sensible to use 18866's VOIP system. But when I use the 18866 settings, I can dial out via 18866 at their prices but -- understandably -- the Sipgate number for people to ring me won't work as there is no username, password etc for it.

VoIP rate comparison by Joel
Hi, We have recently extended our phone rate comparison database to include VoIP. So far we only have a small number of companies' rates: this will grow with time. I would be interested in comments, and in whether we are missing people's favourite VoIP providers. Joel -- Joel Feinstein, Nottingham UK, http://www.ourfavouritecompanies.com
