| | VoIP help needed please by
Spence
One of my wife's work colleagues recently retired to Spain. Just looked
at our last 2 months phone charges and decided £20/month on calls to
Spain is a bit OTT, and perhaps now would be a good time to go VoIP, so
before I do I hope someone here can help out with a few questions.
I understand the basics of VoIP, but my first question is about phones
and connections. I don't want a USB...

I imagine that in theory there should be some degredation associated
with the ATA process. Is this noticeable?

| | VOIP QOS Switch or router ? by
www.GymRatZ.co.uk
Just a quick one.
would the introduction of a pair of switches between voip box and router
have any theoretical effect on performance.
I am going to plug the box directly into a spare router port but was
wondering if there would be any difference if it shared a cable run with
another PC via a pair of switches.
More out of interest than anything really.

| | voipfone website down by
kkm@w3.to
I signed up with voipfone yesterday, so am somewhat disappointed to see
that their website is down today, is this a common problem with them ?
I have a BT geographic number which I wish to port to a VOIP provider to
give me a greater degree of flexibility at some point over the coming
weeks, which is why I looked at voipfone. It is beneficial to me to use
a softfone for now, as its a work from...

| | Cost to receive VOIP calls? by
Paul B
My mate in Germany has VOIP. I'm in the UK and don't have VOIP.
If I get the software/hardware to use VOIP then will I also have to
pay anything to *receive* my mate's phone calls?

| | Which ISP do you use? by
www.GymRatZ.co.uk
To get off my bum siemans "phone" I am having issues with UKonline
currently with a session timeout of 6 minutes terminated by remote
server which UKonline are having difficulty resolving, making VOIP calls
terminate when session drops.
So..... Quick fire Rate your ISP from a VOIP and service prospective.
I'll start...

| | using different Betamax accounts via CallThru access numbers by
Michaela Huber
Hi,
I currently have 2 VoiP accounts (nonoh.net & poivy.com). Both of them
offer local access numbers in different countries so one can use a
mobile phone to make calls using these accounts.
But:
- the access numbers of both companies are *identical*
How can they identify me (ie. my account) ????

| | UK DSL provider experience, AVM Fritz!Box Fon? by
B. Wright
This is quite UK specific so I will post it here and if anyone
has personal experience and can answer all or part I would appreciate
it greatly. I am sure some have already been asked but the market
changes frequently in my experience so best to get current answers.
Who provides the best DSL? Best not meaning cheapest, but
something reasonable (without a contract hopefully), reliable, and...

Anyone know of a bricks and mortar store that sells IP phones?
I'm looking to see how a few feel before buying. Prepared to pay a small
premium for the ability to try them out first (but not so much it
wouldn't be cheaper to buy a few samples!)

| | VoIP remote 'bell' by
Gordon Henderson
I have a need to provide a remote bell at one location - they don't want
to carry DECT phones around with them which was my first suggestion!
So, in a similar vein to the recent tannoy thread, are there any bell
units that are VoIPable? something like a PoE unit, wall mountable with
a single SIP account that just rings a bell and never answers... (Sure
I could use a cheap phone, wall mounted...

Hello,
Has anyone any suggestions for connecting a Tannoy or PA amplifier to
an IP-PBX?
Regular PBXes have a specific connection for the amp; anything suitable
for an IP-PBX?
Cheers.

Can anyone confirm thefollowing?
From what I have read it seems the siemans gigaset is is capable of
running 2x voip calls and one x POTS call through the same box.
i.e. if we have 3 people in the shop and voip as main incoming number
then if we had 3 handsets connected to the same bae station all hand
sets would ring for incoming calls wheter on 2 x voip lines or POTS line.

| | Making VOIP calls via a broadband dongle by
Murmansk69
A friend of mine currently has no landline and is thinking of buying a
laptop.
I've suggested that she could get a broadband dongle to give her
internet access via the mobile phone network and also, potentially,
the ability to make VOIP calls.
What sort of bandwidth does making a VOIP call actually use and do the
suppliers allow you to use their service for VOIP?

| | Possible to route outbound calls from Asterisk IP PBX through Mitel 3300? by
Rich
Hi,
Given the scenario where there is a Mitel 3300 IP PBX connected to an ISDN30
line, would it be possible (doable) to connect an Asterisk IP PBX to the
Mitel via a SIP trunk, and have the Asterisk box use spare channels on the
ISDN line?
In other words, would it be possible using the above setup to have 1 or more
phone numbers on the ISDN30 line be presented to the Asterisk box as though...

| | PAP2 firmware - should I update? by

Hi all,
I have a PAP2 (an unlocked PAP2-NA) that reports it is running Firmware
Version: 2.0.12(LS).
I _believe_ that newer versions of the firmware support
day-light-saving. Is this reason enough to update? Or would I regret it
(i.e. if the newer firmware is more flakey).
I've downloaded 3.1.22 firmware from the Linksys.com website (MD5

| | FoIP functionality on FritzBox 7170 by

Good afternoon all,
I read with some interest (translated from German) about forthcoming functionality for Fritz 7170 box. In particular: answering machine function, native send/receive fax function (this latter without dependency on PC)
Frustratingly, the software doesn't appear to be released for Annex A (UK) nor in English.
Is there any certain information about when these functions will be...
