| | PAP2 firmware - should I update? by
Peter X
Hi all,
I have a PAP2 (an unlocked PAP2-NA) that reports it is running Firmware
Version: 2.0.12(LS).
I _believe_ that newer versions of the firmware support
day-light-saving. Is this reason enough to update? Or would I regret it
(i.e. if the newer firmware is more flakey).
I've downloaded 3.1.22 firmware from the Linksys.com website (MD5

| | FoIP functionality on FritzBox 7170 by
xylophone
Good afternoon all,
I read with some interest (translated from German) about forthcoming functionality for Fritz 7170 box. In particular: answering machine function, native send/receive fax function (this latter without dependency on PC)
Frustratingly, the software doesn't appear to be released for Annex A (UK) nor in English.
Is there any certain information about when these functions will be...

| | VoIP-PSTN by
Chris Dent
Hi Group.
I am a first-time poster and joined the group a couple of weeks ago,
primarily because I am keen to gain a good 'executive' understanding of
the technologies of the modern telecoms market.
Can anyone please explain how VoIP interracts with the fixed-line
telephone network? I mean, do VoIP providers need a presence at an
exchange? How does the call get from the PSTN to the internet...

| | Call from sipvicious by
Chris
Got a call on my voip number this morning. The phone showed the caller
to be "sipvicious".
When I do a google this seems to be some tools for scanning and
identifying voip numbers. Logging into my account at my voip provider
shows no call records for this call.
Does anyone have any experience of this?

| | VOIP For Beginners? by
Usenet
We have a handful of people who would like to use Skype (simply as
that's what the other end are using) or some sort of VOIP to save money
on their overseas calls.
Let's assume (rightly or wrongly as it seems up for debate) that Skype
isn't really "enterprise friendly" with regards to things like
application aware firewalls, and that we're not comfortable with the p2p
element.
Also let's...

| | BT Hub Phone & Home Hub - is it SIP? Locked? by
B. Wright
Anyone familiar with the "BT Hub Phone" that they currently
ship? Also, the "Home Hub", this is the newer version with N wifi and
ships with the Option 2/3 package.
Basically, I want to know if the phone handset is just a DECT or
if it's actually SIP based and whether or not it can be used with other
wifi devices. I'm also wondering about the success of unlocking this
newer hub for use with...

| | Reccommended DECT / VOIP phone? by
Lobster
I'm looking to replace our old current household system of 3 DECT phones
with something a bit more up to date, which doesn't have stuck-down keys
and will get SWMBO off my back! ;-) Thing is, technology has moved on a
bit since I last looked and I haven't a clue what to go for. Any
suggestions please?
Requirements:
- DECT cordless (3 handsets needed)
- integral answering machine
- Caller...

| | Newbie Advice on SIP adapter by
Anthony R. Gold
Could someone give me advice on a simple and reliable SIP adapter I can
install between a broadband router and a PABX. It must feature RJ45
Ethernet on one side and a copper pair that offers dial tone upon off-hook
and behaves entirely like a DTMF compatible CO line on the other side.

| | OpenSER ? why ? by
Steve
Hi,
I always wonder what is the benefit to use VoIP proxy server like OpenSER ?
- what is the benefit of it ? ( I am not sure to see this )
Why not to use a simple Asterisk server can do the job ?
I can see on thir website : ( http://opensips.org )
OpenSIPS (Open SIP Server) is a mature Open Source implementation of a
SIP server. OpenSIPS is more than a SIP proxy/router as it...

| | landline termination charge. by
default
BT and VirginMedia have a connection charge of ~6p per call.
Totally free UK "to landline" calls are available on voip from Finarea
(www.voipcheap.com, www.smslisto.com, etc)
What is the actual cost to a company like Finarea of putting a call to
a landline ?
Is it a sustainable business model to provide free "to landline" calls
when they receive only ~10 Euros per 90 days usable on mobiles at...

| | BT Hosted VOIP by
R. Mark Clayton
BT are supposed to be introducing something called Hosted VOIP.
However they cannot (read won't) migrate numbers in at present.
Sounds like the usual BT Loose Interpretation of English and Standards.
Anyone know whether this is likely to change any time soon or should I just
port a retained number to another VOIP provider?

| | VPN ?? by
Steve
Hi,
I've got a normal ADSL, I would say with upstream ~ 440kb/s
The point is that I have to limit the upstream of all my machines, in
order to get something with good quality Audio.
now, even allocating more than 50% of the Bandwitgh, I still have some
glitch in the phone. ( test with one phone only)

Hello,
I'm stying to get a remote extension working through a Dreytek 2800

Try as I might, I cannot get the phone to register.
As the router has VoIP-ability, I'm assuming it it preventing
registration in some way...

I'm considering setting one of these up between my BT line and a voip

windows program will probably be OK.

This is a followup to my previous thread "Reccommended DECT / VOIP

received and bought the above system!)
I've been struggling a bit to get it all set up but am getting there
slowly. For the past couple of days I've been trying to transfer all my
PC Outlook contacts over via Bluetooth (another story in itself!), using
