Betamax providers by Shaun Palmer
I've been using internetcalls for a couple of weeks with no problems, now I get NU tone for every call. :-( So I open an account with voipstunt and use that - everything is fine. :-) Move back to internetcalls and still get NU tone - so going to use voipstunt for now. :-|

Tesco USB phone by Steve Barlow
Question #1 - Can I use an ATA with the Tesco VOIP service instead of the USB Phone? Question #2 - Is the Tesco USB phone locked to the Tesco VOIP service or could I use it also on say Sipgate? Thanks - Steve B.

Draytek 2800 and Sipgate/voiptalk -- what are the settings? by [L.]
I'm trying to set up my new Draytek 2800 VG with my Sipgate and voiptalk accounts However, whichever way I try, I can't seem to get either to register in the SIP account list. The Sipgate web page should have some help for the 2600, but I cannot see it Voiptalk have instructions for the 2600, which are slightly different and, even f I adapt them, they don't work

Any comment on Gradwell ? by John P
I am looking to equip a small branch office with 3 handsets on direct dial and a general office number to ring all the phones and have been looking at Gradwell. This is our first attempt at using VOIP over an ADSL connection so would appreciate any comments from current or past users. TIA JP

which ATA? by Hana
I've spent a lot of time reading the various threads on this forum as I want to start using VOIP. I currently have a Buffalo high power router and two sets of cordless DECT phones for 2 BT landlines. I understand that I need to buy an ATA to be able to use VOIP through my router. From what I have been reading , my choice is between two or three models: The Fritz box that Ivor often talks about,...

Ekiga and voip.co.uk by alexd
adamc wrote: Has anyone managed to get voip.co.uk working with the Gnome softphone Ekiga? I've set the soft-phone up with the appropriate settings and can get an outgoing call to initiate. However, when the call is answered, there is no transfer of audio. Could this be a codec thing? If it's SIP you're talking about, then it's unlikely. Usually calls just

AddPac AP200 Voicefinder Password recovery ???? by Henk van Andel
I have some AP200's. Were used by internet provider for testing VoIP. Now I want to use these for other SIP provider, so they need to be reconfigured. The problem, however, is that I do not have the password for entering the configuration. Addpac describes a password recovery procedure after a reboot. I should get a BOOT# prompt. But I keep getting a BOOT_Login: prompt which expects a login...

Vonage Motorola VT2442 loses settings when rebooted by Dave
I am in the process of setting up my Motorola VT2442 provided by Vonage but have found a strange problem with it.... if I make ANY changes to the configuration, they only seem to last as long as the router is not rebooted. If the router is rebooted or it loses power it seems to default back to the factory setings. Does anyone else's do this? Is it designed to do this? As far as i can see in the...

Vonage / Draytel by Carl Waring
I have been looking at Vonage (www.vonage.co.uk) but have just found another company called Draytel (www.draytel.org) who do PAYG with no up-front fees. Anyone here with them at the moment care to comment? I know there are a load of VoIP providers out there but if I'm going to use one I'd prefer to use one that doesn't tie me to my PC! Thanks. -- Carl Waring

Cordless, dual PSTN/VOIP phone by SUMMONER
I am currently shopping for a new phone. Thought of bringing my old BT EasyCom1000 over to the next century with an adaptor. (http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=275436) I have always liked the big screen (they should have put back-light on it!), it's big buttons and the nice address book/call log features. Anyway, I am now shopping for a new one instead, budget is ~...

Sipgate G711A - what packet size? by John Geddes
I'm using a Draytek Vigor 2900VG for accessing Sipgate, and find the voice quality to UK PSTN is often poor ("breaking up" is the best I can describe it). I am set for G711A, with a packet size of 20ms. Would I do better with a different packet size? My broadband connection is by radio from a local supplier (Zycom) rather than via BT. I don't know how it compares with BT on quality - but I...

Voipfone hikes call charges to mobiles :-( by DMac
Recieved this this am - prices have already gone up - Certainly worth checking if you are planning to make calls through them to avoid any nasty surprises "From 8th September, calls to landlines in the UK and many Western countries will be charged at 1p per minute (1.2p inc VAT) and most UK mobiles at 12p per minute ex VAT (14.1p inc VAT). "We have held our mobile prices static for...

Vonage, Takes Ages Before My Phone Rings by Phil
When someone rings my new Vonage set up they get about 4 rings before my phone starts ringing. I have just transferred from Freetalk and am using the Motorola VT2442-VU. I have done a few test rings to my Vonage set up using another line and I can see that the router is telling my phone to ring as soon as I hear the ringing tone on the other line as one of the LED's starts flashing but it just...

ISDN over IP by Barney
I've been using VOIP for a while now, but there is a possibility I may have to do some ISDN audio sessions soon. ISDN is a bit pricey for the amount of time I'd use it. Is it possible to run an ISDN session over some kind of ata type device? So virtual ISDN here to real ISDN somewhere else... Cheers, B

SPA3000 and the pstn line by Ian Pawson
My SPA3000 will no longer dial out over the pstn line. When I try I get the 'reorder' tone, which, according to the manual happens when an outgoing call fails. Incoming pstn calls work ok so I assume that there is not a cable problem. Monitoring the pstn line show that the spa does not seize the line. My dial plan contains the following: 1471:@gw0|0800xx.:@gw0 Any ideas where I should start...

Finarea/Betamax Lottery by Graham
OK, my credit with voipcheap.co.uk is down to 4p so it's time to jump ship and go with another clone that still offers free UK calls, but who? I need to decide tonight. I think I am going to go to voipcheap.com, does that seem a sound decision? (given that none of us have a crystal ball). -- Graham.

economics of WiFi handsets by alexd
http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/09/01/linksys_ships_wip330_europe/ Why on earth is anyone going to spend the thick end of £300 on a WiFi handset? It only does WiFi - not SIP, GSM, 3G or anything else. As a comparison for £300, one could buy: - three ATAs and three pairs of DECT handsets, or - a PDA with WiFi running SIP, Skype and MSN clients simultaneously, or - two Siemens C-460IPs, and...
